Banana-like plant with striking red-tinged leaves and dark red leaf stalks. Fast growing with leaves potentially to 6m long. Needs either a large tub (use John Innes No. 3 with added multipurpose) and plenty of water in summer, or can be plunged into the open ground for the summer. Bright light but shade from hot sun if grown under glass.
