A striking vegetable from the cabbage family with swollen purple stem bases which can be sliced and eaten raw, roasted, stir fried or used in curries and many other dishes. It is mild and sweet, similar to turnip but with a nutty flavour.
Sow outdoors from March to July in shallow drills 1.5cm deep and in rows 30cm apart. Thin seedlings to 15cm apart
Harvest when between golf ball and tennis ball size. Don't allow to get too big as they will go woody inside.
