Dwarf variety with single, deep red-black flowers. Ideal for where space is limited, containers, baskets or raised beds in the veg garden. The flowers and leaves are edible and have a peppery taste. The pungent foliage also helps to draw aphids away from vegetable crops such as Beans and Brassicas. The colourful single flowers attract pollinators to help set fruiting crops of Beans, Cucumbers, Courgettes Squashes etc.
Half hardy annual
Nasturtiums flower best on poor soils but will grow on pretty much any soil type. Do not feed plants as this will only make them produce excess foliage and fewer flowers. These plants can be found growing out of rubble so they don't need lots of cosseting.
Sow indoors in April 3-4 seeds per 9cm diameter pot. Keep frost free and plant out at the end of May.
Sow outdoors from the end of May or after the risk of frost has passed. Sow direct into a prepared, weed free site, pushing the seeds in about 2cm deep.
