A hardy variety with narrow leaves and tall spires of mid- to pastel pink flowers on purple tinged stems over a long period in summer and autumn. Sun to part-shade in well-drained soil.
Penstemons have long, tubular flowers which resemble that of a foxglove (to which they are related) in a wide range of colours. They make a bold statement in a herbaceous or mixed border and are valued for their colourful displays from mid to late late summer. They like well drained soil and do quite well on poorer soils. They are best in full sun but will tolerate light, dappled shade. Some are herbaceous perennials, others are evergreen sub-shrubs. Cut back all the old growth in late spring when you see new growth starting to appear from the base. Loved by bees.
