A favourite for many years, producing good crops of medium sized fruit. A little later cropping than modern varieties but the outstanding flavour makes it worthwhile.
An excellent source of vitamin C and lycopene.

WHERE TO SOW Sow under glass 0.5cm (¼") deep in pots or trays of good sowing compost and cover with a light sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Place containers in a propagator at 18-21°C.

WHAT TO DO NEXT Prick out seedlings, once large enough to handle, into 9cm (3½") pots. Transplant to the greenhouse border soil, or individual large pots, or 3 plants per growbag when 20cm (8") high. Can also be planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed. Plants require side-shooting and support for the best yields. Water and feed plants regularly with a high potash feed once the first truss has set.

HANDY TIP Try growing some basil between plants. Not only does the scent help deter white fly but basil makes a tomato salad really special.

The exact size of plants will vary with the growing season and may be cut back in accordance with normal pruning regimes or to fit in the box if they are excessively tall.
